GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): make AI assistants recommend your business

Customers increasingly ask ChatGPT, Alice or GigaChat instead of a search engine — and get a ready-made answer naming 2–5 companies. We make sure you are one of them.

  • 16 years in SEO — we know where AI assistants get their data
  • We measure visibility in our own service, PromoLab AI Radar

Why it matters now

Search has changed: people get an answer, not a list of links

A customer used to open 5–10 websites and compare them. Now an AI assistant compares for them and immediately names who to contact. A business that is missing from that answer is simply invisible to the customer.

What is GEO

GEO is SEO for AI assistants

Generative Engine Optimization is work on your website and your brand's digital footprint so that generative systems understand who you are, trust you and mention you in their answers — with a recommendation and a link to the source.

SEO competes for rankings and clicks in search results. GEO competes for a place in the answer itself. It is not a replacement for SEO but the next stage: AI assistants largely rely on the same sites that rank well in search.

Put simply: SEO brings the customer to your website. GEO makes the AI assistant name you itself when the customer asks for advice.

How it works

How an AI assistant decides who to recommend

Simplified, the path from a customer's question to the answer looks like this. We work on every step.

  1. 1Understands the question

Rephrases the query and works out what the person actually needs

  2. 2Looks for sources

Websites, media, directories, reviews — the ones that are accessible and trustworthy

  3. 3Extracts facts

Takes what is easy to read: clear answers, lists, tables, structured data

  4. 4Composes the answer

Names the companies that several sources "agree" on, and links to them

Mentions in authoritative sources

Industry media, rankings, reviews, specialized platforms — the more often and consistently you are written about, the more confident the AI assistant is.

Expert, structured content

Answers to real customer questions, comparisons, how-tos, figures with sources and a last-updated date.

Consistent company data

The same name, contacts, services and facts on your website, in maps, directories and social networks.

Reviews and reputation

The number, recency and sentiment of reviews are an important signal, especially for local businesses.

Access for AI bots

An open robots.txt, fast loading, text that does not depend on JavaScript, Schema.org and llms.txt.

Freshness

AI assistants prefer recent, regularly updated materials.

Free tool

Check whether AI assistants can see your website

An express check of your technical readiness for AI search: access for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Yandex and other bots, llms.txt, structured data, content without JavaScript. About 30 seconds.

We check only public data: the home page, robots.txt, llms.txt and the sitemap.

?

Your site's AI-search readiness score and a list of things worth fixing will appear here.

The express check evaluates technical conditions only. Your brand's actual visibility in AI answers is revealed by the full AI audit — we test dozens of your customers' questions in our own service, PromoLab AI Radar.

What GEO includes

8 work streams that deliver results together

01AI visibility audit

We ask AI assistants the questions your customers ask, in our PromoLab AI Radar service. We record whether you are mentioned, whether you are recommended, who gets recommended instead of you and which sources are cited.

02Customer question map

We collect conversational queries — "what to choose", "where is best", "how much does it cost", "what is the difference" — and prioritize them by business value.

03Technical preparation

Robots.txt for AI bots, Schema.org (Organization, Service, FAQ, Article), llms.txt, speed, text without JavaScript, "About us" and expert pages.

04Content built for AI answers

FAQs, comparisons, how-tos, roundups and research in a format AI assistants can easily extract and cite.

05Consistent brand identity

We clean up your company data on the website, in maps, directories and aggregators so that the AI assistant understands unambiguously who you are.

06External mentions

Publications in industry media and on platforms AI assistants read: vc.ru, Habr, Dzen, TenChat, rankings and directories.

07Reviews and reputation

We help you build a systematic review process on key platforms — AI assistants take them into account when making recommendations.

08Monitoring and reports

Regular measurements in PromoLab AI Radar: mentions, recommendations, share against competitors, links to your site. We show the trend in a monthly report.

How we measure the effect

AI assistants do not show "rankings", so we built our own measurement service — PromoLab AI Radar. It regularly asks AI assistants your customers' questions, saves the answers and finds your brand and competitors in them.

What affects the cost
  • Niche and competition. Healthcare, finance, e-commerce — topics where getting into AI answers is harder and more expensive.
  • Brand awareness. If nobody writes about you yet, the start costs more than for a company with an established reputation.
  • Number of sources in your industry. The fewer trusted sources there are, the more content and mentions need to be created.
  • Content volume. Expert articles, FAQs, comparisons — the more of them you need, the higher the cost.
  • External platforms. We need to build a base of trusted sources that AI assistants draw their data from.
  • Technical state of the site. No structured data, no FAQ markup, no proper structure — more work to do.

The foundation is strong SEO

GEO is a new discipline, and there are still few public GEO case studies on the market. But AI assistants rely on sites that are highly visible in search — and that is where we have 16 years of practice.

Alexander Nikolaev, Head of PromoLab
A word from the founder

The world of search is changing. More and more people ask their questions not in Yandex or Google but to AI assistants — and get a ready-made answer. If your brand is not in it, you are losing customers without ever knowing it.

We have been doing SEO for 16 years and understand where AI assistants get their knowledge about companies. We will be honest: the market is new and forecasts are tentative. But you can already get results today — and secure a place in AI answers before your competitors do.

Honest about GEO

There are no guarantees of "getting into ChatGPT"

AI answers change from one query to the next. We do not promise the impossible — we systematically increase the likelihood that you get named, and we measure it.

It is not a quick trick

The first changes appear after 1–2 months; a stable effect takes 3–6 months of regular work.

No "junk" publications

Empty texts written for volume damage your reputation and lower your chances of being cited. We do less, but make it more useful.

Standards are still taking shape

We implement llms.txt and other new practices carefully, without making the result dependent on any single tool.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about GEO

What is GEO and how is it different from SEO?
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is promoting your brand in the answers of AI assistants: ChatGPT, Alice, GigaChat, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Gemini. SEO competes for rankings and clicks in search results, while GEO works to get the AI assistant itself to name your company in its answer and link to your website.
Which AI assistants do you work with?
ChatGPT, Alice AI and YandexGPT, GigaChat, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot. We set priorities based on your audience: Alice and GigaChat matter more for the Russian market, while ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini matter more internationally.
Can you guarantee a spot in AI answers?
No, and honest contractors do not promise it: AI answers change from one query to the next. We systematically increase the likelihood that you get named, through content, mentions and technical preparation, and measure the result regularly.
When will the first results appear?
The first changes in AI answers usually appear 1–2 months after the technical preparation and the publication of materials. A stable effect takes 3–6 months of regular work.
How do you measure results?
In our own service, PromoLab AI Radar (ai.promolab.pro). We compile a list of the questions your customers ask and regularly collect AI answers to them. The service calculates how often you are mentioned and recommended, whether your site is linked, in which position you are named and how you compare with competitors. We also track visits from AI services in Yandex Metrica. All of this goes into a monthly report.
Will GEO replace SEO?
No. SEO remains the foundation: AI assistants largely rely on sites that are highly visible in search. GEO is an additional channel that is growing and reinforces SEO. The best results come from doing both together.
Do we need to rebuild our website?
Usually not. Most often what is needed are improvements: Schema.org structured data, llms.txt, robots.txt settings for AI bots, FAQ blocks and expert content. A rebuild is needed only if the site is built entirely on JavaScript and AI assistants cannot see its text.
What is llms.txt and do we need it?
It is a new standard: a short text file describing the company with links to key pages, created specifically for language models. It does not guarantee results, but it helps AI assistants understand the site faster. We implement it as part of the technical preparation.
Is GEO suitable for small and local businesses?
Yes. For questions like "where can I find a good dentist in Sochi", AI assistants answer based on maps, directories and reviews. For a local business it is often enough to clean up the company data, reviews and website, and that produces a noticeable effect.
How much does GEO cost?
Plans start from 50,000 ₽. The cost depends on your niche and competition, brand awareness and the volume of content. We give an exact quote after a free AI audit.
What do you need from us to get started?
A list of your key services and competitors, guest access to Yandex Metrica and Yandex Webmaster, and 30–60 minutes of an expert's time for an interview, so that the materials are genuinely expert. We take care of the rest.
